On Lounges

Since I’ve owned Heyleigh, she’s been boarded at four different barns. I’ve ridden at two other barns long-term, and I’ve been in countless others for tours or meetings for various equine clubs/teams. To the best of my recollection, every single one of them had a lounge. Despite having the same name, the actual functions of the rooms varied drastically. In about half of them, board checks could be dropped off. Most, but not all, had a view of the indoor arena. A couple had vending machines, some had kitchens. One was basically just a couple chairs in a tack room. I think the only thing they all had in common was that they each had at least on place a person could sit.

That brings me to the lounge at my current barn:

This lounge has everything!

Built in tack trunk? Mail box? Check drop box?

Check,

Kitchenette with dining area?

Comfortable seating?

It is a lounge after all.

It is a lounge after all.

This has to be the coolest lounge that I’ve ever seen. There were one or two that I’ve seen at extremely fancy barns that may have been as big as this one, but those always looked like they were intended for galas, not for riders. This one feels so much more… lived in. On top of everything I got pictures of, it has overflow tack trunk storage, a bathroom, the owner’s office, and a couple more tables.

Still, out of everything in the the lounge, I think my favorite has to be the balcony out into the indoor arena.

This is such a handy spot. If friends or family want to watch me ride, there’s somewhere safe and out of the way for them to sit where they can still here me. I’ll also be able to watch other lessons or clinics easily, I might even be able to put a camera on the edge of the railing and up my media game!

All things considered, I don’t think that I could found a barn with a better lounge!
