Heyleigh has made some pretty significant strides this year. From figuring out how to trot without her nose in the air to jumping most jumps on the first try, I'm very impressed with how far she's come given my extremely limited amount of time in the saddle.
That is one of the hardest parts about going to Rose-Hulman. While some quarters are easier than others, I never have as much time as I'd like to get to the barn and ride. This last quarter has been particularly rough; I'm taking five classes at eighteen credits total, which is one class and a couple of credits more than usual add that to normal robotics meetings and the fact that I wasn't able to schedule my classes in such a way that my Wednesdays are free (at my school, that's called having a Weekend Wednesday, and they're absolutely lovely) and that leaves me with very little time in my schedule for riding.
I don't particularly like the idea of having a new years resolution. They're known to fail, and I hate l to break promises to anyone, including myself. That being said, I am going to give myself the goal of actually riding Heyleigh at least once a week. Going to the barn just to give treats or lunge doesn't count. Hopefully being even moderately successful with this goal will help Heyleigh and I make even more progress in 2018, and give me permission to take a couple hours to myself in the midst of endless homework, projects and exams.
Happy New Year everyone
